A 31-year-old man was killed when a six-feet mud wall of a house fell on him in Mariyamman Kovil Street in Ramanathapuram on Friday morning.

The incident occurred at around 6.30 a.m. when S. Muthukumar was trying to move his motorcycle parked near the house. He died on the spot.

The police said the wall was damp because of incessant rain. Mayor S.M. Velusamy inspected the place and asked authorities to clear the rubble.

Mr. Velusamy said owing to heavy rain, three houses in Ganapathy had collapsed on Thursday and the Corporation officials and workers were working round-the-clock to clear the debris.

Roads

He said roads dug for storm water drainage work posed a major threat to residents and added that efforts were being made to re-lay the roads.

District Collector M. Karunakaran will give Muthukumar's family Rs. 1 lakh from the Natural Calamity Relief Fund.
