Man held on murder charge

Periyanaickenpalayam Police arrested a 50-year-old man on charges of murdering his friend following a drunken brawl on Friday night. It is learnt that the victim K. Periyathambi alias Rangasamy (42), of Kallipalayam near Periyanaickenpalayam, was a daily wager. The accused M. Ravi Kumar, who was also from that village, was a caterer.

Inquiries revealed that the victim and the accused were in an inebriated condition when Periyathambi reportedly asked the accused to give him money to buy liquor. It turned into a heated argument as the later refused and left the place. It is learnt that Ravi Kumar returned to Periyathambi’s house after sometime and murdered him by throwing a stone on the victim’s head and fled the place.

Ravi Kumar was arrested in the wee hours of Saturday, produced in court and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison later that day.
