Man held on murder charge

A 27-year-old-man stabbed his father to death allegedly after the latter refused to give him money for alcohol. K. Selvaraj (58), a resident of Rayappapuram second street on Thadagam Road, was killed by his son S. Deepswaroop (27) on Sunday.

The police said that Deepswaroop was doing odd jobs and addicted to alcohol. He used to demand money from Selvaraj, a goldsmith by profession, for drinking.

On Sunday afternoon, Deepswaroop demanded money from his father for celebrating Pongal with his friends. Deepswaroop picked up a quarrel with Selvaraj who refused to give money. Irked by this, the man stabbed his father several times with a kitchen knife. The police said that Selvaraj, who suffered stabs in chest, abdomen and neck died on the spot.

The R.S. Puram police arrested Deepswaroop shortly after the incident. He was produced before magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.

Killed in accident

A 69-year-old man, who was severely injured after the two-wheeler he was riding was hit by two speeding motorcycles died under treatment.

V. Ramakrishnan, a resident of Bharathi Nagar near Ganapathy, succumbed to injuries caused in the accident that took place at Police Colony, Gandhi Ma Nagar late on Saturday.

The R.S. Puram police arrested four persons, who attempted to rob a man at knife-point on Sunday.
