The Peelamedu police on Saturday arrested a 29-year-old man on charges of stealing ₹85 lakh from a private hospital. The police said S. Yuvaraj, native of Kosavampatti in Namakkal district, worked as a cashier at the private hospital for the past six months. He stole ₹ 85 lakh from the hospital, the collection amount of three days, on February 13 night and absconded. A case was registered against Yuvaraj. A special team comprising inspector Amutha and sub-inspector Sumithra arrested Yuvaraj late on Friday and recovered ₹ 72.40 lakh from him. The accused told the police that he went to Chennai and stayed in a luxury hotel there. He also hired a rental car, and spent around ₹10 lakh in a few days, the police said. The police found that the accused had stolen over ₹7 lakh when he was a cashier in a jewellery showroom in Coimbatore and had involved in similar theft while working in a textile showroom. He was produced before a magistrate on Saturday and was remanded in judicial custody.
