S. Marimuthu (45), a resident of Kosavan Thottam near Senkuttaipalayam, was arrested for murdering his mother S. Arukkaaniammal on Wednesday.

According to Negamam police, the man hacked his mother to death irked over her refusal to part with his share of property. Police said that Arukkaaniammal owned nearly two acres of coconut plantation at Kosavan Thottam which is taken care by Marimuthu and his wife Jayachitra.

The police said that Jayachithra used to frequently pick up quarrels with her mother-in-law over the ownership of the coconut farm. She was also irked because her husband used to hand over income earned from the plantation to his mother.

On Tuesday, Jayachitra wanted Arukkaaniammal to re-register the plantation farm to her husband's name. Jayachitra allegedly told husband that she was ill-treated by mother-in-law.

On Wednesday, Marimuth went to his mother's house and picked up an argument with her over the quarrel she had with his wife. According to police, Arukkaaniammal scolded Marimuthu using filthy words following which he hacked her with a sickle in neck and stomach. The woman died on the spot. On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested Marimuthu.
