The Special Public Prosecutor of the court, R. Sarojini, said that the 17-year-old girl was staying with her aunt at Dhagamalai Estate in Mudis near Valparai. On January 27, 2013, when the girl was alone at her house, the accused K. Velayutham had raped her.

On learning about the incident her mother and aunt took her to the All Woman Police Station in Pollachi and lodged a complaint.

A case was registered against him under sections 3(a) and 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. On the completion of trial, Velayutham was convicted on Wednesday.
