The III Additional District and Sessions Court Judge, B. Karthikeyan, on Wednesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife in 2012.

Additional Public Prosecutor P.E. Augustus said that the man, V. Thambi alias Ravichandran (40) of Mariamman Temple Street in Perur Chettipalayam, ran a firm that extracted gold dust from sand. He was married and the couple had a daughter.

In 2007, Thambi separated from his first wife and married T. Chandrakala (30). Meanwhile, Thambi suffered a paralytic attack a few years ago, after which he started suspecting Chandrakala’s fidelity. He also frequently picked quarrels with her.

On November 6, 2012, he poured acid on Chandrakala while she was standing near a temple on Vysial Street in the city.

She was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and gave a dying declaration before the magistrate on November 28, 2012. Meanwhile Bazaar Police registered a case and arrested Thambi. Judge Karthikeyan sentenced the man to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on him.
