The Mahila Court here sentenced a farmer to five years imprisonment on Friday for sexually abusing a minor girl.
According to the prosecution, Dineshkumar (23), a farmer of Nedungulam Ellamadai village near Edappadi, kidnapped an eight-year-old girl and sexually abused her on September 8, 2015. Poolampatti police arrested Dineshkumar and filed a case in the Mahila Court here. Judge Vijayakumari found Dineshkumar guilty of the charge and sentenced him to imprisonment for five years. She also imposed a fine of ₹16,000 on him.
Robbery at knife-point
In another case, the Chief Judicial Magistrate(CJM) court here sentenced Sinnathambi alias Udayakumar (33) of Johnsonpettai in the city to imprisonment for seven years for robbing a woman at knife-point.
Prosecution said that Udayakumar threatened Saraswathi at knife-point when she was proceeding to Johnsonpettai on October 11, 2016 and took away ₹2,000 from her. He also threatened the passers-by who came to the woman’s rescue. The Hasthampatti police arrested Udayakumar and filed a case in the CJM court. The CJM P. Sivagnanam found Udayakumar guilty of the charge and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment. A fine of ₹1,000 was also imposed on him.
