Man drowns in drainage

A 35-year-old man, S. Ramesh of Shankar Nagar, was found dead in the drainage opposite Manis Lodge at Mettupalayam on Monday morning.

According to the police, the man was a daily wager and a drunkard. Inquires revealed that he had slept on the small cement wall of the drainage and could have fallen into it on Sunday night.

He drowned in the drain that was flooded by the heavy rains that night. A case was registered by Mettupalayam Police based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father M. Subramani (70) of P.N. Pudur. Ramesh’s body was taken to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for post-mortem.

Arrested

Ramanathapuram Police arrested three persons, including two 14-year-old boys of Puliyakulam, on Sunday, for waylaying a mason and grabbing Rs. 2,000 from him at Amman Kulam near Puliyakulam on Saturday night.
