Man arrested on land fraud charge

The Central Crime Branch Police arrested R. Mohan Kumar (56) on the charge of making a woman impersonate as his mother to usurp 39.5 cents of land worth several crore rupees at Ganapathy.

The two others accused of committing the crime were his wife M. Shanthi (50) and K. Lakshmi (65). The police said a search is on for them.

According to police, Mohankumar’s father Rathinam bought 197.5 cents land at Ganapathy in 1980 in the name of his stepmother (Ponnammal), his three children B. Selvi (58), R. Mohankumar (56) and Chinnaiyan and another woman K. Lakshmi (65). Chinnaiyan was not married and died in 1982 and his share of undivided property was inherited by his parents Rathinam and his wife Gowriammal (73).

Rathinam died in 1998, leaving the share of property to his wife Gowriammal.

Inquiries revealed that Mohan Kumar asked his mother to give him the share of the land of his deceased brother, but Gowriammal refused to do it.

Police arrested Mohan Kumar on in the late hours of Friday.
