Kundam festival at Bannari Amman temple today

Devotees in large numbers have assembled at the Bannari Amman temple to take part in the annual kundam (fire walk) festival to be held on Tuesday.

The ritual is expected to begin at 4 a.m. during which the chief priest will offer puja following which the devotees will walk on the kundam. The fire walk is expected to continue till evening as over one lakh devotees from various places are expected to participate.

As many as 1,500 police personnel drawn from neighbouring districts have been posted for security. Drinking water facilities are made near the temple premises. Also, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Limited has started operating special buses from Monday from various places.

Movement of heavy vehicles on Dhimbam Ghat Road is banned for two days for the smooth conduct of the festival.
