The Kavalan SOS (Save our Soul) app, as a part of the Tamil Nadu State Police Master Control Room initiative, was launched here by Deputy Superintendent of Police P. Kannan with the support of a local NGO.

The app was launched to extend instant help to people, particularly women, children and senior citizens.

The app should be downloaded on the android phone and the number will get registered as soon as the user details including contact email, address, details of kin are keyed into the phone.

On completion an activation code will be sent for verification and the mobile number will be signed up for use.

On pressing the SOS button, an alert is sent to the Tamil Nadu State Police Master Control Room, within the next 15 seconds signalling the place of origin of the message.

With this, the GPS location will map the topography of the area and landmarks in its vicinity.

This will be automatically be sent to the control room, from where the information will be forwarded to the local police, the patrolling unit.
