October 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:46 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Three jewellers alleged that they were waylaid by a gang of five persons on the outskirts of the city on Thursday. They claimed that the gang had also taken away their four-wheeler and Rs. 27 lakh from their possession. Police sources on conducting preliminary inquiries suspected that it could be unaccounted money.

According to the police, M. Hakkim (40) and Sivasamy (44) of Pudukottai and Abdulkapoor of Chennai were heading from Bengaluru to Kerala when they were waylaid by the gang on the Neelambur to Palakkad by-pass close to the Eachanari and Malumichampatty Junction.

Superintendent of Police M. Sudhakar said that the trio were giving contradicting statements on the incident and the volume of money that they were carrying. He said that a case would be registered based on the complaint by the victims.
