IOCL conducts disaster management drill

A drill to check preparedness in the event of any contingency as part of the disaster management preparedness was conducted at the Indian Oil plant at Irugur on Wednesday.

A drill to check preparedness in the event of any contingency as part of the disaster management preparedness was conducted at the Indian Oil plant at Irugur on Wednesday.

A disaster management drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) on Wednesday in Irugur.

The drill was conducted in presence of K. Jagatheesan, Joint Director of Industrial Safety and Health and the representatives of Mutual Aid. D. Kannabiran, Chief Terminal Manager, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) – Irugur, K.V. Ramesh, Territory Manager, BPCL, LPG Bottling Plant, Peelamedu took part.

The team demonstrated the preparedness of the terminal to handle the emergency situation. An imaginary fire was spotted in the petrol tank leading to the team led by Chief Incident Controller P. Radjaradjane displaying a perfect demonstration of emergency situation management practices.

The combat, rescue and auxiliary teams of IOCL also swung into immediate action.The team monitored and coordinated the safe passage of tank lorries, which was under filling at the time of fire scenario. Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services personnel also rushed to the spot. Ramesh, Vice-President, KMCH, along with his team rendered assistance in evacuation of burn injury casualties to the Hospitals for further management. The drill exercise lasted for about 20 minutes after which normalcy were restored.
