The combined 11th and 12th edition of the national-level dog show by Anamalais Kennel Club, held in Coimbatore on Sunday, attracted many.

The show held at Hindustan College of Arts and Science showcased 43 dog breeds, foreign and native.

V.S. Ravi, president of Anamalais Kennel Club, said that dogs were brought by breeders from various parts of the country for the show.

The native breeds featured in the show included Rajapalayam, Kanni, Kombai, Chippiparai, Mudhol Hound, and Rampur Greyhound.

Shih Tzu, Miniature Pinscher, Great Dane, German Shepherd, Doberman, Dachshund, Siberian Husky, Miniature Pinscher, Belgium Shepherd, Labrador, Golden Retriever, Irish setter, Weimaraner, Dachshund, Fox Terrier, Whippet and Jack Russell Terrier were among foreign breed dogs brought for the show.

“First and second prices were given to the best two dogs from each breed under the ‘best in breed’ category. Those chosen for the best in breed category were lined up to select the ‘best dogs of the show’.

Eight dogs were chosen as best dogs of the show from the two each best dogs selected from each breed,” said Mr. Ravi.

Mukul Vaid, Anjali Vaid from Delhi and Sarath Sharma from Gurgaon were the judges of the show.

Apart from dog lovers, the public also visited the show which became a platform for them to see native and foreign bred dogs.
