The rain that lashed the city and its suburbs on Monday, continued on Tuesday also.
According to reports reaching the district headquarters, the rainfall recorded in mm in the 24 hours that ended 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday:
Peelamedu – 22.40, Mettupalayam – 8.10, Periyanaickenpalayam – 26, Sulur – 24.20, TNAU – 2.20, Coimbatore (South) – 8, Tunakadavu – 18, Peruvaripallam – 15, Upper Nirar – 2, Lower Nirar – 3, Upper Aliyar – 28, Kadamparai – 2, Sircarpathy – 9, Vettaikaranpudur – 8, Pollachi – 3, Manacadavu – 2, Pongalur – 5, Negamam – 22 and Nallar – 20.
Sholayar and Aliyar are surplussing, while Parambikulam is fast reaching the full storage level, Thirumurthy and Amaravathy is inching towards the brim.
The district administration has asked the local bodies to keep the schools in their area ready for providing shelter in the event of evacuating people from low-lying areas.
Police, Revenue, Highways, Fire and Rescue Services, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation people have been asked to remain in a state of readiness to meet any contingency.
