Students and staff from the Valour and Wisdom Nursery and Primary School here teamed up with the Coonoor municipality and volunteers from a local NGO, to conduct a clean-up in the area surrounding the school at Quail Hill on Thursday.

The students helped out the volunteers, municipality workers and school staff, who managed to clean up over 400 kg of waste in the areas surrounding the school.

The drive was organised by the district administration, as part of the “Sweep the Blue Mountains” campaign.

P.J. Vasanthan, trustee of Clean Coonoor, said that though the children were not tasked with directly cleaning up the area, they assisted in the entire process.

“We also got them to visit local residents, and to speak to them about the importance of segregating and disposing of the waste properly,” said Mr. Vasanthan. Samantha Iyanna, Managing Trustee of Clean Coonoor, was also present at the event.
