A variety of games and interactive programmes marked the Teachers’ Day celebration organised by The Hindu in association with Indian Oil Corporation Limited at Brookfields Mall on Sunday.
This time, it was turn of teachers to showcase their talent and compete with each other to grab prizes.
The 125 participants, who were teachers from various schools and colleges in the city, had a fun-filled weekend as they took part in games including Lemon and Spoon, Musical Chair, Gunshot with Balloon, Sing-a-Song, Basketball, Bull’s Eye and Rocket Throw.
Chief guest for the event Indian Police Service Officer, RRRF Battalion, S. Ajeetha Begum from Malappuram, Kerala, in her address said, “All great achievers attribute their success to their teachers who inspired them. Teachers play an important role in motivating us to dream big and achieve great goals,” she said.
R. Sangamithra, English teacher at T.K.S. Matriculation School, winner of musical chair, said that the programme was a rare opportunity to express their talents. “We usually organise such events for children. Very rarely do we get platforms like these to have fun and express ourselves.”
S. Radha, Lecturer at Andavar College of Education, said that it was a fitting way to celebrate Teachers’ Day.
A quiz on topics including education, sports, film and brands saw the enthusiastic participants vying to come up with the correct answer first. The questions ranged from the name of the present Chief Executive Officer of Apple Inc. to the English alphabet that does not appear in the name of any compounds in the periodic table.
Assistant Manager, Retail Sales, IOC, Coimbatore, S. Venkatraman, was also present.
The winners were give gifts presented by Nandhi Mark Samba Ravai, Easa College of Engineering and Technology, Green Trends, Race Course, Laptop Store, Baby Planet, Switcher T-Shirts and Chennai Silks.
