Five students of a private arts and science college were arrested by the Perur Police for damaging the front windshield of a college bus.
The arrested students have been identified as S. Saravanan (20), K. Sivakumar (21), A. Naveenkumar (22) and R. Karthi (20), of Vadavalli, and K. Sathish (18), of Perur. Inspector P. Selvaraj said that the students were in an inebriated condition while returning from Kovai Kutralam on Tuesday evening.
There were around 50 students in the bus when the accused, on two motorcycles, picked a quarrel with the bus driver S. Mayilsamy (37) of Arumugagoundanur near Perur Chettipalayam, and pelted stones on the windscreen, near Gokulam Mills, on Siruvani Main Road.
The students in the bus caught hold of the five and handed them over to the police.
Case registered
A case was registered against the five under sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 294(b) of the Indian Penal Code read with 3(i) of the Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act.
Saravanan, Sivakumar, Karthi and Sathish were lodged at the borstal in Pollachi and Naveenkumar at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
