Principal District Sessions Judge Aadhinathan on Monday dismissed a bail application of M.R.P. Eravanan, relative of Sasikala.

When the bail application came up for hearing, the defence counsel appearing for the accused (arrested on charges of abduction, extortion and intimidation of a contractor Ravikumar of Karamadai) said that his client was innocent and was falsely implicated in the case.

The prosecution opposed the bail and said that there was a need to even seek custody of the accused to investigate various other complaints.

His release on bail at this point would derail the investigations, as the accused would tamper with the evidences and witnesses. The accused is in Puzhal Central Prison, after he was taken to Chennai on a prisoner transit warrant in connection with a case of cheating a businessman to the extent of Rs. 1 crore.

Meanwhile, petitions by the counsel for the accused before the Judicial Magistrate – Mettuppalayam seeking medical examination of Eravanan under section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code and another petition seeking allocation of ‘A' class in prison were not taken up on Monday owing to non-availability of the judicial officer. Petition was likely to be taken up for hearing in a day or two, counsel for the accused said.
