A herd of four elephants including two calves strayed into human habitations in Narashimanaickenpalayam on Tuesday night and caused panic. The elephants which started going back initially because of the sound caused by the residents at one stage started chasing them.

People who tried to chase the herd on two-wheelers at one stage had to leave the two-wheelers and run for safety. The elephants destroyed the two-wheelers. The herd moved towards Poochiyur and started destroying the crops in the farms.

Later, forest department mobilised personnel and managed to chase the herd back into the reserve forests.
