Disaster management drill at Irugur

To check the alertness and preparedness of the agencies concerned, a disaster management drill was conducted at the Bharat Petroleum terminal at Irugur on Wednesday.

District Collector Archana Patnaik oversaw the drill which started around 11.45 a.m. in the presence of crisis management group members and mutual aid members.

This drill was conducted with two simultaneous fire scenarios and the ways to overcome and control the crisis.

The in-house fire team led by D. Kannabiran, chief fire co-ordinator, handled the emergency situation in the presence of K. Jagathesan, Joint Director of Industrial Safety and Health.

Water storage

This installation has a water storage capacity of 13,000 KL, which will last for about 4 hours of continuous fire fighting requirement of the location.

The fire drill was followed by a post-drill review session.

Mr. Arul Muthunathan, Territory Manager, co-ordinated the drill.

Senior officials from Oil companies such as IOCL, HPCL and CCK Petronet also took part.
