The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia) is likely to evolve details in a month on how it will implement the defence innovation and incubation projects.
Teams from the Union Government, related to these two projects, are expected to visit Coimbatore next month. The association and the teams visiting will also look at the locations for these projects and discuss the details of implementation, according to V. Sundaram, president of the association.
He said the Union Government announced a ₹20 crore defence innovation hub in Coimbatore in January. The association is working on a detailed project report for the project. “Since there are two projects planned - an innovation hub with focus on defence and an innovation centre for engineering - we need to work out the details,” he said.
A defence expo was held here a few months ago and the Defence Ministry and the association are following up with the units that had evinced interest in supplying to the defence public sector undertakings. Of the 3000-4000 entrepreneurs who visited the expo, 30 to 40 are positive of supplying to the defence units. There are more who need support, he added.
