Officials of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) disconnected power supply to four tannery units that were found discharging effluents into the drainage without processing.

Many textile processing and tannery units were functioning in Naripallam area.

Officials received complaints that many units were letting off the industrial effluents into nearby well and drains without processing. A team of officials inspected the factories in the area and found the four units discharging effluents into the drains. Also, many violations were found in the functioning of the units, including absence of effluent treatment plants. Officials disconnected the power service to these four units and said that further action would be initiated.

Residents wanted the officials to inspect all the factories and units in the area as there could be many violations in their operations. They wanted stringent punishment against the unit owners for causing harm to the humans.
