The Coimbatore Corporation on Saturday undertook a repair work at the underground drainage line on Brooke Bond Road.

According to sources, the pipeline carrying sewage from R.S. Puram and Bharathi Park area to the sewage treatment plant in Ukkadam was corroded. The waste water had also taken away a portion of the earth. The result was that the road had caved in on the stretch of road opposite the Kaleeswara Mill underpass.

When the Corporation dug the damaged stretch, the aforementioned problems came to light, the sources said and added that the civic body replaced the damaged pipe with a new 600 mm pre-stressed concrete pipe to safely convey the sewage.

It deployed an earth mover, a crane and a ready-mix concrete machine to seal the pipes and convey the sewage. The entire operation is said to have cost the civic body around Rs. 3 lakh.
