Annapoorani (30), a resident of Kumarasamy Colony on the Thadagam Road came to the Collectorate here on Friday with her seven-year-old daughter Sridarshini to petition the District Collector seeking action against the girl’s school teacher for allegedly beating her on Thursday.

The woman and her husband Manikandan (35), a painter, send their two daughters Sridarshini (7) and Abinayasri (6) to the Corporation Elementary School located at the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University. The girls are in their second and first standards respectively.

Annapoorani alleged that on Thursday evening the elder daughter came home in tears and had swollen injuries caused by a stick on her hands, chest and back. The girl told her parents that her teacher beat her as she did not complete the homework given on Wednesday.

They lodged a complaint with the R.S. Puram Police, who inquired about the petition but did not register a case.

According to the police, a helper in the school found two girls fighting and warned them not to indulge in such acts and the victim was frightened following the incident. The police claimed that the girl was not beaten.

Unhappy with the turn of events, the woman petitioned the Collector seeking action against the person who beat her daughter.

In the absence of the Collector, she gave the petition to District Revenue Officer T. Christuraj.
