Commission cold storage facility: MDMK

May 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The district unit of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has urged the State Government to open the cold storage unit built in Kinathukadavu under the National Agriculture Development Programme.

In a release, the party’s State Youth Wing Secretary, V. Eswaran has said that following demands from tomato farmers in and around Kinathukadavu, who suffered from the vagaries of the monsoon and market, the government had initiated construction of the 500-tonne cold storage facility in 2012-13 and after a delay completed the work.

The facility was yet to be commissioned and hence the farmers continued to suffer. The Government should allow the farmers to use the storage facility at the earliest, he added.
