At a time when about seven lakh students are knocking at the doors of colleges for admission immediately after the Plus-Two results are out, education institutions are admitting students according to their whims and fancies by collecting donations, said V. Easwaran, State youth wing secretary of MDMK.
The MDMK had asked the government to introduce a single-window admission process.
Though the government had framed rules and regulations for the admission process, and had asked the Directorate of Collegiate Education to monitor it, nothing was happening, he added.
Private colleges were selling applications for ₹ 300 and even ₹ 500 instead of ₹ 50 announced by the government.
The government had announced that a single application should be distributed for all courses. But colleges were selling separate applications for each course to mint money.
They were flouting rules of mentioning fee structure too. They were bargaining with each student separately, he said.
