The comments made by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami regarding an accident in Coimbatore in which a young woman was injured, reportedly when she tried to avoid a flag post erected by AIADMK members, were inappropriate for his position, said Communist Party of India (CPI) State Secretary R. Mutharasan here on Wednesday.

Speaking to mediapersons after the inauguration of Jeeva Illam, a new party building at Velampalayam, he urged the State government to avoid placing party hoardings and flag posts as they are a hindrance to public.

Mr. Mutharasan also urged for more transparency in elections ahead of the local body elections as he alleged that the political parties are kept in the dark by the State government as to whether the Corporation wards have been redrawn across the State. “Elections must be conducted in a democratic and fair manner,” Mr. Mutharasan said.
