Cinema sealed for poor maintenance

A cinema near the municipal bus stand on Mettur Road was sealed and the owner fined ₹ 2 lakh for aiding mosquito breeding and keeping the premises unhygienic here on Monday.

Collector C. Kathiravan, along with Corporation officials, inspected the premises and found water stagnation where Aedes aegypti mosquitoes were also found. Also, the premise was unclean. Based on the orders, official sealed the cinema and also imposedfine of ₹ 2 lakh. Also, water supply to the cinema was disconnected. Mr. Kathiravan also inspected shops on the bus stand premises to check for use of banned plastic items and also whether the shops were maintained clean.

Earlier in the day, during his inspection at Ashokapuram in Nehru Street, he found a house aiding mosquito breeding and levied fine of ₹ 50,000 on the owner. Also, an electric motor that was used to draw water illegally was also seized.

So far, ₹ 5 lakh fine has been imposed commercial establishments in the city for poor maintenance of their premises during inspection by the collector.
