Child worker rescued from industrial unit

An officials team rescued a child worker from an industrial unit at Kokkarayanpettai near here on Monday.

Following complaints of presence of child labour in industrial units at Kokkarayanpettai and surrounding areas, District Collector M. Asia Mariam directed the officials to conduct surprise check.

A team led by R. Madeswaran, Assistant Commissioner of Labour, conducted surprise check and rescued a minor boy from a unit.

The rescued boy was produced before the Collector and later handed over to Children Welfare Committee. The Collector directed the officials to take steps for the rehabilitation of the rescued boy and also initiate legal action against the unit which employed the child worker.

The special team comprised of personnel personnel of the National Child Labour Project too.
