The Anti-Land Grabbing Cell, of the Coimbatore District Police, registered a case against 14 persons for cheating a Tirupur-based textile businessman to the tune of Rs. 6 crore in a real estate deal that dates back to 2012.

Deal

The police said that the complainant P.K. Ganeshwar (60) of Palladam, Tirupur district, entered into a business deal with S. Viswanathan from Arasur, Coimbatore.

Based on the complaint, the police said that Viswanathan – who was booked as the prime accused – demanded Rs. 6 crore for real estate business.

The police said that Ganeshwar gave the money to Viswanathan, for which the latter granted the power of attorney for land owned by him to Ganeshwar.

But, Viswanathan cancelled the document.

Petitions

Later, he is said to have signed 26 acres of land to Ganeshwar and later filed various litigation petitions due to which Ganeshwar could not take possession of the land.

In the complaint, Ganeshwar alleged that Viswanathan threatened him for trying to get back his money.

The victim approached the Madras High Court, based on whose direction the Anti-Land Grabbing Cell registered a case against the 14 persons under sections 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 211 (false charge of offence made with intent to injure), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Further investigations are on.
