The owner of a bleaching unit in Mudalipalayam here paid the fine for allowing breeding of mosquitoes within the unit premises on Tuesday after the Revenue Department was directed to take over the premises.
Revenue sources said that officials from Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine along with Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj inspected the unit on November 7 and levied a fine of ₹1 lakh for allowing stagnation of rainwater in its water tanks.
As the owner of the unit failed to pay the fine, the Revenue officials, as directed by District Collector K. Vijayakarthikeyan, proceeded to take over the premises on Tuesday.
However, the owner paid the fine amount to the officials following which the water tanks were emptied and cleaned, the sources added.
Unhygienic
As part of the drive to prevent spreading of dengue, district administration officials are imposing fine on owners of private spaces if they are found unhygienic and enabling breeding of mosquitoes.
