Six women, all employees of Federal Bank and aged between 22 and 41, are on a biking expedition from Kochi to New Delhi.

An initiative of the bank, the expedition is to create awareness on women empowerment and gender equality.

Almost 40 % of the 15,000 employees of the bank are women. It had called for nominations from its women employees who had a passion for biking and were interested in the expedition. Of the nominations received, six (The Federal Bank Motorcycle Angels) were selected from various cities. Starting from Kochi on Wednesday, the women will reach New Delhi on August 20.

They will ride from 6 a.m. to afternoon every day, travel 2,700 km on bike, and interact with the local people in the evening hours.

According to K. Srinivasan, zonal head of the bank, and P.N. Asoka Kumar, the regional head, the women riders took part in a meeting organised at Nirmala College for Women here on Thursday evening. They will take part in such meetings at six cities throughout the journey. The bank will support the needy women in these cities during the meetings, through its Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.

The bank has branches across the country and the women riders will be escorted by the respective branch employees throughout the journey. They are travelling on Royal Enfield Bullets.
