It was a humdinger. The Hindu Young World Quiz contest, held here on Wednesday, went right down to the wire as the winners were decided in the very last question of the day.
Hosted by The Hindu’s quiz master V.V. Ramanan, the regional finals in the junior category, for Classes VI to VIII, had all the elements of a thriller movie.
As the last question was put before the six teams that made it to the final round, Vidya Niketan CBSE School held a slender lead over Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB), Coimbatore. However, Nithish. M and Jeremy. R.S, Class VIII students from PSBB, managed to successfully guess that Genesis and Exodus were the first two books in the Old Testament.
The other four teams that made it to the final round after competing among 235 teams in the preliminaries were Vidya Niketan CBSE School (Team 2), PSBB (Team 2), Yuva Bharathi School and Gedee Public School.
The quiz master also kept the audience engaged and threw several questions in their directions. While the winning team scored 114, the audience scored 80 points.
