The 14th Tirupur Book Festival under way here is proving to be a big consolation for bibliophiles who otherwise face dearth of good quality book stores in Tirupur knitwear city.
As many as 151 stalls have been set up at the book fair, organised by Pinnal Book Trust and Bharathi Puthakalayam at Padmini Gardens grounds.
Around 50 prominent publishers from across the country are participating in the event displaying wide collection of novels, biographies, travel publications, children’s books, and reference materials.
V. Sridhar, proprietor of a publishing house, who has set up the stall for the tenth time in Tirupur Book Festival, said that though books on a wide range of topics were on display, majority of the books sold each time used to be from among the reference books like dictionaries and education-related editions.
Great works
In the general category, publishers this time have given an opportunity for the visitors to source some of the great works from the past by Anton Chekhov, Jawaharlal Nehru, Winston Churchil, Hitler (Mein Kampf) and Satyajit Ray apart from contemporary works written by authors like Ramachandra Guha, Harsha Bhogle, Chetan Bhagat and a few international personalities like V. S. Naipaul.
Among the daily visitors include large numbers of students from schools and colleges in and around the city.
“We do not have much an opportunity in Tirupur city other than book fairs of this kind to see works of great authors,” pointed out some of the students.
The fair, which started on February 3, will come to a close on February 12.
