As part of the ongoing Coimbatore Vizha, a super bike rally organised by the Coimbatore Cotton City Throttle (CCT) was flagged off by S. Saravanan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), at Race Course here on Saturday.

The founder of the Cotton City Throttle Mohan Raj stressed the wearing of helmet having them strapped rather than wearing it for name sake.

Mr. Saravanan said that many such initiatives have been conducted in the past and would continue to do so to create awareness among the general public to bring in a culture of compliance rather than complying with the rules for the fear of enforcement.

A helmet was to save ones own life and not to escape fines, added Suprej Venkat, an adventure tour rider, referring to the number of people carrying helmets with them to escape fine but not wearing them.

About 50 bikers from Coimbatore, Tirupur, Salem and Erode participated in the rally that commenced from Coimbatore Cosmopolitan Club.

People think that super bike riders are always fast and reckless, but the truth was that the riders are always informed to maintain city speed limits and we condemn racing on public roads, said Mohan Palanisamy, a CCT member.

Kite festival

Kites of various sizes, shapes and colours soared high at the the first ever International Kite Festival held here in the city on Saturday.

Bengaluru-based V K Rao and his 10-member team taught the spectators the basics of kite flying.

The organisers said the event would continue on Sunday also.

Several visitors pointed out that they had to go all the way to Hyderabad or Ahmedabad to witness such an event. They expressed their gratitude to Coimbatore Vizha for bringing the kite festival.

As part of the Vizha, the Coimbatore chapter of the Young Indians (Yi), which was a part of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and CCMC in partnership with eight city-based hospitals, hosted ‘Healthy Kovai’ for conservancy workers of the city Municipal Corporation.

The free medical camps were held at Corporation Girls Higher Secondary schools at Damu Nagar, Ramakrishnapuram, Peelamedu and Chetti Veedhi. A team of doctors from Sankara hospitals, PSG Hospitals, Ramakrishna Hospitals, GKNM, Ganga hospitals, KG Hospitals, GEM Hospitals, Aravind Eye Hospitals and KMCH provided consultation to the conservancy workers.

The conservancy workers were provided medicines free of cost by Rathna Group.

Robofest – International Robotic Competition at Hindustan College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, NATURE EVENTS by Singanallur Lake Conservation Society, Kiddies Sports Tournament at Kumaraguru College of Technology were some of the other events that formed part of the second day of the Vizha.
