People in Ward 14 coming under the Periya Semur Municipality are forced to live under miserable condition as a majority of the residential colonies in the ward lack basic amenities.

The municipality is yet to provide adequate drinking water supply provisions, public convenience facilities, drainage channels and street lighting to a number of colonies in the ward.

The lack of drinking water provision has forced to people to fetch water from distant locations.

“Water supply from the municipality remains inadequate. Sometimes, we get water supply once in 10 days,” people point out.

Many roads in the ward are yet to be tar-topped. Sewage flows on the roads due to lack of proper drainage facility, posing serious threat to human health.

“It is very common to see sewage getting stagnated on many of the streets in the ward. This has led to increase in the mosquito menace to alarming proportions,” people point out.

“We are spending sleepless nights. The foul smell emanating from the stagnated sewage has become unbearable,” they complain.

Garbage

The local body has also grossly failed to collect the garbage on a regular basis. mounds of garbage remain uncollected for days together.

“Children are the worst affected due to the poor sanitary condition. They fall ill very often,” residents complain.

People have represented these issues to the senior officials in the municipality on several occasions. No fruitful efforts have been made so far to sort out the issues, they allege.

People urged the municipality to take steps on a war-footing to create adequate facilities in the ward.
