Passion for knowledge comes to the fore at The Hindu Young World Quiz

Fun-filled rounds, anxious moments, passion for knowledge, and mass participation marked 17 th edition of The Hindu Young World Quiz competition presented by Camlin Mechanical Pencil held at SNR Auditorium on Tuesday.

Yohan K. and C.K. Jayanth Athitiya of PSBB Millenium School, and S. Anand and R. Avnish of Vidya Niketan Public School emerged as winners in junior and senior categories respectively.

Jacob Bivin and Prasanna Venkatesh of Suguna PIP School and Shri Karthik A. and Jeyanth R. of CS Academy, Erode, bagged the second and third places in the junior category (class IV to VI). G. Sachin and N.D. Rohith of Vishwa Sishya Vidyodaya, Pollachi, and Aswath B. and Logeshwar V.R. of SBOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School emerged as first and second runners-up in the senior category (class VII to IX).

Six teams each from junior and senior category competed in the final round after being selected from 271 and 290 teams from various schools who participated in the preliminary round.

Quiz master V.V. Raman hosted the competition which consisted of direct questions, audio-visual rounds, buzzer rounds, multimedia masala and shoot-out.

The first question in the junior category, an alternative name for mercury which starts with the alphabet ‘M’, was interestingly passed by all the six teams and was answered by a student from the audience.

Audiences, students who participated in the preliminary rounds, also remained engaged during finals in the two category as quiz master shot questions at them and gave away complementary gifts for the right answers.

Prizes

Prizes to the winners were given away by D. Lakshminarayanaswamy, joint managing trustee of SNR Sons Charitable Trust.

Teams that won first prize in the two categories were given trophies, merit certificates and BSA Ladybird/Hercules cycles.

Teams that stood from second to sixth places bagged trophies and merit certificates. All participants were given a certificate and a pen each.

The event was powered by Life Insurance Corporation of India.

The venue partner was Sri Ramakrishna Group of Institutions and the regional partners were SSVM World School, CV Raman School for IIT-JEE, Woods Garden, Twin Birds, and AKR Textiles. Funskool, Funcity, and Kovai Kondattam were the fun partners.

BSA Ladybird and Hercules were the national gift sponsors, Banaanaa Slice India, Nourks Karupatti Sweets and Millet Savrouries were the snack partners with Lawrence and Mayo as the vision partner.
