The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has decided to build new remote sensing spacecraft with a number of improvements, Chandrayaan I and II Project Director M. Annadurai has said.

The challenges in the remote sensing area are the introduction of new sensors, improving resolution and agility, faster coverage and all-weather capability through microwave radar imaging. “New spacecraft with these improvements are being planned by the ISRO,” he said while delivering the Graduation Day address at the Sengunthar Engineering College here on Sunday.

The remote sensing spacecrafts of ISRO are one of the largest constellation in the world owned by a space agency. “We have a wide range of capabilities in terms of resolution and coverage and the products of these spacecraft are marketed globally,” he added.

Talking about the achievements of ISRO, Mr. Annadurai said that the organisation had end-to-end capability to conceive applications, build spacecraft incorporating them and launch using its own space launch vehicles. “ISRO has a very strong and matured partnership with industry and academia in realisation of the space systems,” he said. Mr. Annadurai called upon students to maintain a reflective and questioning mind, and seek career opportunities that are daring and intellectually challenging. The country, he said, needs the talent and energy of the younger generation to evolve into a powerful nation in the world.
