Cattle show proves a crowd-puller

Being a weekend, the second day of the Kongunaadu Kaalnadai Thiruvizha (Cattle Fest) drew a lot of crowd at Samathur, near Pollachi, on Saturday

Organised by the Vanavarayar Foundation, the second day of show had on display various cattle varieties, besides horses, goats and camel. The white, brown and black Kangayam variety breed was on display at the fair. Muthiah (29), from Perambalur who runs a pet farm in Trichy, said that he had come to the fair to study the ‘Naatu Madu’ variety. He has also plans to start a dairy farm soon. Engineering student Sakthi Thas (22), from Salem, said that he wants to see Kangayam bulls and the beauty show events.

On Saturday, beauty show event was conducted exclusively for Kongunattu cattle. A team comprising cattle experts and veterinarians judged the beauty of the cattle based on various parameters. The bulls were judged by their gender and age. About 600 cattle took part in the event, the organisers added. The event also had cattle/horse/ram show and exhibition of agricultural, dairy, and farming products. The third day will have on display different varieties of cattle from various States- Kangraj- Rajasthan, Sahiwal- Punjab, Gir- Gujarat, Vechur- Kerala, Murrah Buffalo- Delhi and dog breeds from Tamil Nadu.
