Call to conduct jallikattu

Rastriya Hindu Parishad has urged the Central and State governments to take steps to conduct jallikattu duirng this Pongal. In a petition submitted to the Coimbatore district administration at the weekly grievances redress meeting, it said that jallikattu, rekla and other traditional sport should be conducted so that tradition and culture were protected.

Workers seek justice

Workers affiliated to the Bharatiya Coimbatore District General Workers’ Union on Monday submitted a petition to the Coimbatore district administration seeking its intervention in settling a dispute with their employer. The petitioners said they were working for the past 11 years in the factory of a company that manufactures kitchen equipment. The company management had not drafted service rules, promotions and wage increments. They were getting only 30 per cent of the pay their compatriots at the company’s main manufacturing unit in Hosur were receiving, the petitioners said. To highlight their grievances and fight for redress, they had formed a union but the management had refused to recognise the same. The administration should therefore intervene to ensure that they got justice, the petitioners said.

‘Fix auto rickshaw fare’

Coimbatore District Bharatiya Transport Workers’ Union has urged the Coimbatore district administration to write to the State Government to declare auto rickshaw fare for the city, as accepted by drivers and members of the public.

In a petition submitted at the weekly grievance meeting, the trade body said the Government should invite auto rickshaw drivers’ unions for talks.
