“We have drawn up an agenda for the next three years for taking up various projects.Students of affiliated colleges can utilise the university’s infrastructure facilities by paying a nominal fee,” Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University C. Swaminathan said here on Saturday.

He was responding at a function got up to felicitate him on assuming office by the Association of Management of Private Colleges (AMPC).

Mr. Swaminathan said he was aware of the many problems and difficulties the college managements faced since he had worked at various levels in colleges. “Management representatives can meet me any time and I will try my best to sort out their problems”.

He called upon the college managements to come forth with developmental projects for which he assured he would take steps to obtain grants and aid from the Government to the extent possible.

Many changes were taking place in higher education, thanks to the efforts of the Central and State Governments, he said. He added that he would soon convene a meeting of college principals to discuss the revamping of syllabus.

B.K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore Kendra, said reforming higher education was the need of the hour. “Though the country has made significant progress in various spheres, no noticeable reform has taken place in the education system, particularly higher education. A drastic change is called for,” he asserted.

M. Aruchami, President, AMPC, said the standard of Indian institutions should be raised to international level.

Sheela Ramachandran, Principal, PSG College of Arts and Science, P. Haridas, former president of AMPC, K.A. Chinnaraju, Director, Coimbatore Institute of Management and Technology, and J. Manjula, Principal, Sri GVG Visalakshi College for Women, spoke.
