The option for voters to exercise their right under Section 49-O of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, which attracted a lot of attention during the Parliamentary and Assembly elections, seems to have failed to catch the voters’ imagination during the Mayor by-election held here on Thursday.
Though the total number of voters who had went in for the option of “No Vote” was not available on Thursday evening, Presiding Officers in the North and Western Zones of the Corporation said that just one voter in nearly 15 booths had exercised the option till 1 p.m. on Thursday. Most of these booths were located in and around R.S. Puram areas which have a high concentration of educated people, normally expected to be aware of 49-O.
