To attract more tourists to the Kurumbapatti zoological park, the forest department has created 3D artworks on natural themes on the lanes inside the park here.
The artworks, so close to real have been attracting children and elderly alike and many do doubt is it real or reel. The artworks have become wonderful photo booths and visitors do make it a point to click pictures with the 3D tiger and boat here. The zoo is the only picnic spot for city-dwellers in Salem.
According to forest officials, the artworks were done also done to create awareness amongst tourists about conserving nature and natural resources. Besides this, the forest department is also setting up lawns by removing invasive species and has sent proposal to bring animals like black buck into the zoo here.
A butterfly garden is also being set up at the zoo and several varieties of flowering plants have been arranged for this purpose. Four beehives have also been set up near by the butterfly garden.
District Forest Officer A.Periasamy said, “various efforts are being taken for the development of the park and to attract more visitors. The bee hives have been set up near the butterfly garden to enable cross pollination.” According to forest officials, the footfall to the park has been increasing over the years. According to statistics, close to 2.5 lakh persons visited the park in 2017-2018, while close to 2.7 lakh persons visited the park in 2018-19.
