300 special buses from Salem for Deepavali

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) will operate about 300 special buses from Salem to various districts in view of Deepavali.

According to officials at the TNSTC, the special buses would be operated till October 29 to handle passenger rush. The officials said special buses and more number of services would be operated from Coimbatore and Bengaluru to Salem and from Salem to Tiruvannamalai, Chidambaram, Kalakurichi, Madurai and Trichy among other places.

Special buses would also be operated from Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri to important cities.

A temporary bus stand is being set up at the Corporation grounds next to the New Bus Stand here to avoid congestion considering the increased passenger movement during the festival, and flyover works. Omni buses would be asked to operate from the temporary bus stand and traffic officials said that only shuttle services would be allowed between the old and new bus stands.

The traffic officials added that they were contemplating on moving the bus stop from Five Roads junction to Kuranguchavadi to avoid congestion at Five Roads and en route.

City police have already erected watch towers at 13 places to monitor crowd movement during the festival. CCTV cameras are also installed on them.
