30 prisoners out on parole

Ahead of Deepavali, 30 prisoners were released on parole from Coimbatore Central Prison to go to their home towns.

Prison officials said that these prisoners were released in a phased manner from Thursday to Saturday. Based on parole applications from many prisoners, 30 were chosen and for either three days or six days. Police escorts were sent along with some of the prisoners on parole, the officials said.

Man arrested

Police officials from Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested a man from West Bengal for cheating two people of ₹10,000 under the pretence of purchasing railway tickets here on Friday.

According to police, Berukami (24) received the amount from two men claiming to purchase tatkal tickets on Wednesday and did not return. RPF registered a case against him and remanded him in judicial custody at Coimbatore Central Prison.

Two held for blocking bus

Police arrested two men for blocking a private bus and threatening the driver here on Thursday. D. Prabhakaran (36) and S. Anandhakumar (47), stopped the bus on Avinashi – Coimbatore road near the toll gate at Kaniyur. Based on a complaint from the driver, Karumathampatty police registered a case. They were remanded in judicial custody.

Three detained under Goondas Act in Tiruppur

Police detained three accused in the murder of a DMK member under Goondas Act here on Friday.

In a release, police said that L. Nandakumar, R. Muthukumar, and S. Balaji, were arrested for murdering T. Balamurugan, a coordinator of DMK’s student wing in September.

The accused are currently remanded in judicial custody at Coimbatore Central Prison.
