About 20 bull tamers suffered injuries in the jallikattu held at Manjini village near Attur on Tuesday.

Of the 640 bulls from different parts of the state which had registered for the event, only 490 were released through the vaadivasal after thorough screening by a team of veterinary experts.

All the injured were given first aid at the venue itself. Four of them who suffered serious injuries were referred to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital.

District Collector Rohini R. Bhajibhakare inaugurated the event by administering oath to the participants.

The youths, who successfully managed to tame the bulls, were given gold and siver coins, almirahs, utensils, fans and cots as prizes. The owners of the bulls which managed to give a slip and escape from the onrushing bull tamers were also honoured.

A strong police team, led by Pon Karthikumar, Deputy SP, Attur, was in place and maintained law and order.
