The body of an unidentified youth was found on the premises of the city's iconic structure, the Victoria Memorial, early on Sunday morning.
The security guards at the Museum were conducting their morning rounds around 5.30 a.m. when they noticed the body in the pond, said Chittaranjan Panda, secretary and curator of Victoria Memorial Hall.
“The police were immediately informed, but they have not told us anything about the victim's identity,” Dr. Panda added.
He said none of the employees of the Museum were able to recognise the victim.
“The guards conduct a survey of the grounds in the mornings and evenings.
“They had not noticed anything when the last rounds were conducted at dusk on Saturday and nothing out of the ordinary was noticed during the night.
“It was only this morning that the discovery was made,” he said.
