Thai police say twin attacks blamed on suspected Muslim militants killed two soldiers Saturday and wounded nine others in southern Thailand.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Kritsanapong Paetsit says a group of at least five insurgents set off a roadside bomb that hurled a military truck off the road. The blast sparked an exchange of gunfire for 10 minutes.
Kritsanapong says two soldiers were killed and five wounded in the violence in Yala province’s Raman district.
About one mile (1.5 kilometers) away, suspected militants set off another roadside bomb, wounding four soldiers.
More than 4,200 people have been killed in predominantly Buddhist Thailand’s three Muslim—dominated provinces since an Islamist insurgency erupted here in 2004.
